Robbie Rolled

Rickrolling had its birth thanks to 4chan back in 2005 with the seeds being sowed in “duckroll” where the user moot used a word filter to change “egg” to “duck” across 4chan. This led to a bait and switch where external links led to a picture of a duck on wheels. 2007 a trailer for the video game Grand Theft Auto IV was released where after drawing enough views to crash the site an unidentified 4chan user applied the concept of the duckroll to what appeared to be a link to the trailer on YouTube, The Rickroll was born with the link directing to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”.

2010, it’s time for the Robbie Roll. Robbie Nevil’s 1991 release fo “Just Like You” from the Day1 album is almost as annoying at that damn Smurf theme tune for getting stuck in you head. Click below to see what i mean.

Ok so it’s not going to bring us that one step closer to the Gingerpocalypse as Mr Astley’s video clip would but in my book that is a good thing.   God damn Gingers scare the shit outta me.     It has everything that was great about that period of musical transition from the 80’s to 90’s.  Grunge was just taking a hold of the dirty masses and this was one of the last “Big hair + Guitar solo + 80’s influenced fashion” video clips.
