Man: Jacklyn H. Lucas

Gentlemen,

Some of you may have seen we are campaigning hard on Twitter.com these days. Because we are the Authority on Man Card, we felt it only right to dispense Man Card wisdom upon the masses, however we can.

Those masses, however, have come back to dispense knowledge on us. Which brings me to this post. A twitter follower of ours, @SFGeek, brought Mr Jacklyn H. Lucas to our attention. So I thought I would say a few lines on this courageous man. He was captain of his schools football team, and at the age of 14 had grown to be 5’8″, 180 lbs, looking older than he really was. On August 6th, 1942, he enlisted in the Marine Corps reserve, saying he was 17.

Fast forward to when he turned 17, the young Man was on Iwo Jima, creeping through trenches when Japanese troops opened fire on them. They threw two grenades into the trench, and acting quickly, Lucas dove on them to save his fellow Marines.

He was awarded the Medal of Honor, Purple Heart, and many other medals. Just goes to show you, regardless of age, we’re all men.

Stay Manly My Friends…
